Story
A beautiful summer's day, the hottest of the year so far in some parts of Britain. Heeding medical advice, we started at 9.00 and carried food and water for a picnic on the way. Our route was something of a meander through the featureless forest as can be seen from the recorded track (most wiggles due of GPS errors rather than drink). The OS map being 20 years old was less useful than anticipated as where the navigators who were much older than the map. Nevertheless we managed to keep mainly in the shade, cleverly avoiding the exposed ridges in favour of the valley bottoms. We picniced, after a climb up the steps, inside the iron age fort at
Dolebury warren
on comfy tuffets in the shade of an Oak tree. Back to the Swan in Rowberrow for a drink. An excellent walk and company.
