The walk starts and ends in the carpark at Charterhouse, up past Burrington Coombe
which we
last visited 3 years ago The walk is taken from the
Mendip Society but modified so that we walk up through Long Wood. Lunch at
the Seymour Arms in Blagdon.
From the carpark, we walked down the valley, passing the entrance to Glebe
Swallet. Down Velvet Bottom Nature Reserve and then right up through Long Wood
Nature Reserve (celendines, ladies smock and wood anenomies but too early for the
ramsons and bluebells). Up over the fields and bridleway to the masts and then back
to the mine workings and the condensor labyrinth. A lovely walk and the showers held
off till we got back in the cars.
Total distance 4.4 miles - 125 m rise from bottom of Velvet Bottom to the
masts.
