We followed the walk described in The Evening Post (2009) , starting outside the Fox and Badger, visiting St
Julian's Church, past St Julian's well to Twinhoe, then past Brake Wood, a sea of
bluebells, down hill to cross the Cam Brook with a view of the weir and up into
Combe Hay. Coming back we recrossed the Cam Brook and followed the stream bank,
through a field of inquisive heifers, uphill and along an old track to White Ox Mead
Farm. After braving a field of galavanting bullocks, we walked uphill and back along
the ridge lane with views of the Westbury white horse, past the sad floral tribute
to 19 year old Charlie Tugwell, across fields into a confusing mess of
diversions before getting back to the pub and lunch. Lovely weather, wild flowers
aplenty, a very satisfying walk.
I made a small terrain model of the area. Height is exaggerated two-fold. It shows the
meanders of the Cam Brook valley nicely.
