The gods were kind to us and we had a splendid walk in sunshine, although chilly
when not sheltered from the Noreaster winds. From Saltford across the river and
fields to Kelston and on uphill. Kelson Round
Hill (or Kelston Tump) is a landmark which we had not visited previously and
the views from there and from Prospect Stile above Shiners Wood were wonderful. We visted the Church
of St Martin in North Stoke and back along the Avon past the site of Kelson Brass Mill and back to
lunch at the Jolly Sailor at Saltford Lock. Length 5.6 miles, Vertical distance
180m.
Kelston Brass Mill is not open to the public but Saltford Brass Mill is open for a
couple of days a month in summer. The mills made brassware which was exported to
Africa on the first leg slave trade.
On the Cotswold way we saw a memorial stone to 17-year-old Sarah Louise Gray. A bit
of research discovered that she died whilst horseridding from Sudden Adult Death
syndrome rather than an accident.

Coincidently, Julia's daughter Kate was up at Kelston Round Hill later in the day,
having walked the dog up from Weston.
