The Sense of an Ending won the Man Booker prize in 2011. Not in itself the primary recommendation but the book was clearly well received and the reviews are good.

As we enter the autumn of our lives (well most of us) we have time to reflect and ponder perhaps events and experiences that have shaped where we are today. I have occasionally wondered how my actions might have been perceived by others and am very aware how flaky our memories can be and how we might now imagine a past rather different to the reality. Hopefully nothing harmful or even criminal has been blocked or ignored but the book may stimulate a personal reflection (or possibly revulsion) that could contribute to an interestion discussion.

Of particular relevance is that the book is only 150 pages. Furthermore a dramatised version can be found on BBC 4 that I have seen referred to recently.
