Bishopston Not A Book Group  : March

A Quiet Life in the Country on 4 March 2027 at 19:30 at Eddy's

Lady Emily Hardcastle and her Welsh maid Florence Armstrong (known as Flo) retire to Littleton Cottrell in South Gloucestershire having grown tired of London. They emerse themselves in village life but it is not long before they find themselves investigating a dead body in the woods. They, of course, suspect that the detectives from Bristol are following the wrong scent.

This is the first of a dozen novels in the Lady Emily Hardcastle series. My whole family love them and eagerly await the next in the series. The repartee between  Lady Emily and her maid Flo  - who turns out to be be a martial arts expert - is often hilarious and the series takes us to destinations such as Bristol, Bath and Weston-super-Mare.

I'm recommending this because I feel that our group would appreciate a month exploring our own part of the world during a period in which our grandparents grew up.

PS: 'Littleton Cottrell' doesn't actually exist, though in one of his postscripts Kinsey says that it bears a close resemblance to Thornbury.
