'Metaphors we live By' by George Lakoff and Mark Johnson 1980 pp237 on 7 January 2025 at 19:30 at Chris's

Are you feeling up or down today? Have you had a full life? This classic work of linguistics reveals the role of metaphor in shaping our language and thinking. For me reading it (I see from the date on my copy . 35 years ago), it was indeed a seminal experience and altered the way I think about language even now. I'd be interesting in extending it to explore how our professions structure the way we see the world. Lakoff might be better known to some for "Woman, Fire and Dangerous Things" 1987 which title stirred some controvesy.
