Theme: Is winning everything ? Anchor: Politics on the edge by Rory Stewart, 417
pages, published 2023 The book is an ‘easy to read' memoir that invites readers into the
mind of the author. Uncompromising, candid and darkly humorous, this is his story of the
challenges, absurdities and realities of political life. His account offers a glimpse
into the inner workings of politics, revealing both its flaws and potential for
improvement. We could explore the complexities of governance and the challenges faced by
those working within the system, however, for me it begged the question, is winning
everything ? With a general election this year, to what extent can political parties
compromise ? This theme, of course, can be expanded into the world of sport and possibly
the legal profession, where coming second rarely is remembered or rewarded.
